A Word From One of the Creators
From the desk of Eric Ratcliffe
Hey guys, so this is the start of an arc I’m calling “Bad House Guest from Titan,” which you can obviously see is going to heavily feature Thanos. For those that don’t know, Thanos is awesome and of course was teased to be the big bad at the end of The Avengers.
But I’m sure that’s not the first question people are asking as of today’s strip. You guys want to know about the Hot Pizza song don’t you? Well first, a video of the song best I could find via YouTube:
It’s a catchy song named Heartbeats even though it sounds like they are saying Hot Pizza. Thanks to YouTube’s Jesse Cox, I found out about the song in the first place. He’s a fellow Thanos fan too actually! But wanted to give a shout out to Jesse for getting the song stuck in my head in the first place and I just thought it was funny imagery and I’m pretty sure I got it stuck in Jim’s head too! So points of extra credit for me!
And speaking of Jim, we tried something a bit different this week but still incredibly cool. Thanks to an app for the PC, I was able to see his screen as he did his rough sketch of the strip this week and we bounced ideas back and forth for the strip as he worked. It was a really fun way to work and I’m looking forward to doing it more as I thought it was a very positive experience for the strip.
On another note, there’s a chance we’ll be changing the header banner on the site soon depending on everyone’s schedules. With the smaller team and new members of the team I figured it may be time for an update!
Jim also noted that his Thanos is heavily inspired by Ron Lim which, after he pointed it out to me, is definitely pretty obvious. It’s just beautiful any way you look at it and my reaction on that last page is priceless. Plus, this is the first appearance of Wade the cat on screen in the 3 plus years we’ve been doing the strip.
I really liked the fact that this arc was mutually loved by the whole creative team when I sent it as well; cannot wait to see people’s reactions to the whole thing!
Next week…Eric does his best not to panic, does it work? Find out in 7, folks!
